Flame 2D

I've decided to abandon the main Flame project and move onto something easier; Flame 2D.

It will be similar to my original vision of Flame, but much more 2D.

Work will start on it tomorrow.

I've decided to try and make >= 1 posts a day from now on. For the first post, I present unto thee:

Flame Stellar Colony Prototype
The flame stellar colony prototype is something that I've been working on. Basically, the AI starts from one star in a 160 star "galaxy" and sends out colony fleets. It starts off in the present day (2012 CE) and continues running. I decided to make a screenshot every simulated millenium to show off what happens.

Key

• Red, White and Blue Crosses+Points: Stars.
• Grey Points: Colony fleets. These fleets colonise other stars over the course of 550 simulated years.
• Yellow Points: Radio messages. These radio messages allow different colonies to communicate their scientific advancements.

Without further ado, the screenshots:

2000 CE. Look at the lowest bright star. Then shift your gaze upwards. You will come across 3 stars in a line, 2 red and one white. The white one is the AI's home system.

3000 CE. If you look closely, you can see a single colony fleet.

4000 CE. There are now three colony fleets; two close together and a third one, forming an equilateral triangle. No extraterrestrial worlds have been colonised yet.

5000 CE. The first star has been colonied. Three radio messages are enroute from the home star into the newly colonised star, a minor F5 class.

6000 CE. The first of the bright stars has been colonised and many radio waves bounce between the colonies.

7000 CE. A huge wedge of the upper sky has been colonised as well as the second of the A class stars.

8000 AD. Almost the entire middle third of the galaxy is now colonised.

9000 CE. The brightest stars of the galaxy have been colonised, however many M and K class stars remain uninhabited.

10000 CE. Only a few M class stars are left; in the coming 1000 years they too will be colonised.

11000 CE. The sky lights up with hundreds of radio messages. No star is not fully inhabited.

 This is just a simple 2D colonisation simulator abstracted into nothingness. But it's a start.

Imma Playing Aurora

Aurora is a science fiction 4X game with a metric buttload (~873.4 kg) of features. The entire game is based around trans-newtonian elements. These elements allow new propulsion and stuff to be made.

Aurora also allows you to simualte future history! So here's my log of playing Aurora, for people living in the wacky alternate universe where I become president of the Terran Federation in 2025.

Spacecraft

GEV Geode

The Geode class geosurvey vessel was introduced in 2026 to survey the solar system for trans-newtonian resources (especially Uridium, which was predicted to run out by 2029). It uses the first generation Ion Engine E0.8, developed in 2025 by Scientist Ellis Fowler for spaceflight purposes. The spaceship weighs 1,850 tons and has a crew of 73.

The first Geode built was called Geode 001. It completed its scan of Luna on the 8th February 2026, but revealed no resources. Not to be put down by this failure, the crew of Geode 001 scanned all the bodies of the solar system, with the largest mineral deposits found on Mercury in March 2026, Venus in April, Europa in June, Sinope the month after. Much rejoicing happened when deposits were found on Uranus and Cordelia in the same month in September. This streak of luck continued into October, when Proteus and Triton turned up large deposits. In December that year, materials were found on Sol-A Comet #1 and Sol-A Comet #2.

With the survey completed, Geode 001 returned to Earth and the data was handed to Terran President Harrison Potts on the 20th December 2026.

FT Carrier

The Carrier class freighter was introduced in 2027 in order to transport the mines and mass drivers required to exploit the resources Geode 001 turned up. It used the same Ion Engine E0.8s as the Geode, however used 5 of them to transport its massive bulk of 32,500 tons (including 196 crew members) across the void. The Carriers come equipped with 12,500 tons of cargo space to transport entire automated mines at a time.

The Carrier class was actually too large for the shipyards at the time to produce, so an existing shipyard had to be extended by 528 tons of capacity just to build it.

The first Carrier was called Carrier 001, which carried a construction factory, an automated mine and some infrastructure to Europa in order to establish a mining base. It completed this mission in December 2027, before being sent on a mission to contantly tranfer infrastructure over to Europa.

In July 2028, the first commercial Carrier was built by Knight Colony Corporation. By September 2028, the Knight fleet had increased to two carriers for a total tonnage of 65,000. In February 2032, there were five carriers in the Knight fleet for a total tonnage of 162,500.

CS Coloniser

The coloniser was introduced in 2028 to bring colonists to the new mining colonies. It has cryogenic storage for 10,000 people, and is highly automated to the point of only requiring 68 crew and 4,250 tons of structure. Like many other ships of its generation, it uses the Ion Engine E0.8.

The first coloniser, Coloniser 001, began by transferring 150,000 colonists to Europa to work at the mining colony. It successfully brought all 150,000 by July 2029.

GSV Well

The GSV Well was introduced in 2031 to search the Sol system for gravitational anomalies which might allow for interstellar flight. It used two of the newly developed Ion Engine E8s allowing it to travel at the speed of 4,444 km/s. Due to the low weight of these new engines, it only weighed 1,350 tons, even with the maintenance supplies for the Gravitational Survey Sensors and the life support 103 crew members factored in.

The first Well built was called Well 001 and scanned all 30 possible locations for gravitational anomalies. It completed this mission on the 10th November 2033, and it turned up 5 gravitational anomalies.

Scientist Ellis Fowler was born in January 2004 and is the inventor of various technologies, including the Ion Engine E0.8 (invented January 2025), the Asteroid Mining Module (invented May 2027), the Terraforming Module (invented March 2028), Genome Sequence Research (completed October 2029), Research Rate 240 RP (invented December 2035).

Civilian Administrator Harrison Potts was also born in January 2004. He was educated at the Earth University and was appointed the position of 'President of Earth' in February 2025.

Civilian Administrator is another public figure born in January 2004. She was educated at the Earth University and gained the title of 'President of Europa' in October 2028.

Scientist Ross Khan was born in December 2004 and invented the Ion Engine E8 (invented April 2030).

Scientist Aidan Hobbs was born in July 2010 and invented Stellerator Fusion Reactor Technology (invented April 2032), Magneto-Plasma Drive Technology (invented July 2035).

Just some short story I made for fun. It will take you 2 minutes to read silently and 3.83 minutes to read out loud according to wolfram alpha.

Sevius ran down the dimly lit hallway carrying his happy baby meat, still fresh from lunch, in one hand and a pad full of information in the other hand. He needed to report this new information to the head of research immediately, since he thought he was right on the edge of something very important, something that might solve the last problem in the way of achieving the goal of his research foundation.

He entered the head of research’s office holding the information from the latest test. He began to describe the results, and was talking about how he was able to create a strong, low-density material that could be manufactured easily.

The head of research took the results of the research and scanned them into the computer. He pressed a few buttons and the text had been transferred into a computer document. ‘These results seem extensive,’ he said to Sevius, and then handed Sevius the pad back. ‘I’ll send these over to another laboratory for more tests. If this is the key to our troubles, then you will be greatly rewarded. You might even replace me!’

Sevius left the room with the results, and returned back down the hallway to his laboratory where he would continue doing tests on the materials. ‘Other people may be interested in the project,’ he thought to himself, ‘but I’m just fine testing with the materials.’

Days passed, and the results of Sevius’ testing were verified by several other research teams. Each one said that Sevius’ results were accurate, and that the construction of the project can begin.

The project, of course, would take years to create. The huge size of it, combined with the new technology required to even create a tiny portion of it, make it a momentous undertaking

But eventually it was built. The day it was completed was a day of great celebration for all the members of the Waterbe Nation (it was not the only nation containing Waterbe, but they believed themselves to be the greatest nation; if the project is any indication of the success of a civilisation, then they are the greatest nation).

Sevius admired the completed project from inside his Sunnevica. It was a tiny city, but it was perched atop massive wheels composed of Seviusite, the material which Sevius had developed many years before. The wheels gleamed under the light of Shraak Prime. On top of the wheels, on the deck plate, the city was there with three layers of buildings. On the bottom, there were many light-weight flats crammed between minimalistic factories already pumping out smoke from the starting of the traction cities’ engines; in the middle, there were larger houses for the important people, including Sevius; sitting on top of it all, there was the opulent palace where the emperor will inhabit. A machine with the appearance of a colossal saw was firmly attached to the front.

Sevius made his way past the crowd, which gladly parted for his Sunnevica to pass. When he reached the traction city, he shown his security pass and climbed on board to his house on the second layer of structures. In his room, he switched on the news, and live footage of the traction city was on the television.

The city began to drive forwards, and outwards towards the neighbouring countries’ capital. The colossal saw perched on the front turned hungrily.

Minecraft -> Minecrgay?

I typo'd really bad, turning Minecraft into Minecrgay. I then looked at my keyboard and worked out how. Here it is:

• I typed normally up to 'Minecr'
• I then accidently press the F key before the A key. 
• But I don't press the F key, I accidently hit the G key which is next to F. This gives me 'Minecrg'
• I then press the A key. This gives me 'Minecrga'
• I then try to press the T key, but press the Y key which is next to T.
• 'Minecrgay'!

My New Tetraspace Page

I'm making a page on Tetraspace for my blog. It's not up yet, but it will be soon.

In other news, I came up with a way to make anything sound alien-ic (bad sci-fi style, where the aliens are named after their planet).

We'll do an example: Make Thomas sound Waterbien. Let's go!
First, I remove all letters up to the first vowel of Thomas, leaving us with Omas. We than put all the letters up to the first vowel of Waterbe on, giving us Womas.
Now, we chop off the end letters up to the last vowel (ignoring any ending vowels), giving us Woma. We then add the ending of 'Waterbe' to it, giving us a total of Womarbe!
So my waterbien name is Womarbe.
Some more sample names:

• Joe makes Worbe.
• Patrick makes Watrirbe.
• Cameron makes Wamerorbe

and so on. This could be used for any two words, e.g. Thomas+Joe = Jomajoe (this is now my middle name) and Atheism+Nerdiness = Neiss.

Stalkerbien Science

I'm going to do !!SCIENCE!!, to find out what happens if you drop a Stalkerbe 4 stories into magma. Here's the description of our "volunteer":

Stalkerbe 4
A robotic soldier built by the ancients to kill people.
He is gigantic. His metal armour plates are rust with flecks of grey.

So he looks pretty old. I'd put him at about mid-200s-ish. Now, to drop him!

...

Nothing happened. Looks like the metal plates are magma proof. Now to the control "volunteer", who is dropped an equivalent distance onto stone.

His left hand is gone. His right hand is gone.

Seems like those are some pretty bad wounds. Now to repeat the experiment with females to avoid gender bias. Enter subjects 6 & 7!

Neither Stalkerbe was wounded! I drop another female onto stone, and the same happens. Another female, and still no injuries! I then drop two males (TS 10 and 11). 10 has no injuries but 11 lost his tail. Seems like female stalkerbe are more resistant to fall damage.


Let's do some large-scale testing. 10 females (test subjects 32 to 41) and 10 males (test subjects 42 to 51). Drop them

And we get the following wounds (inc. past tests):
Females: 7 missing parts
Males: 13 missing parts

So females aren't invincible, as I first thought, but they are twice as resistant as males. Now for some combat tests! After sealing off an area to stop others from interfering, I pit 10 females (subjects 76-85) against 20 males (subjects 86-95).

The casualties:
Females: 5 deaths, 39 missing parts, 34 major wounds
Males: 10 deaths

It looks like the female stalkerbe are the most powerful. Next step: finding out why.

The Immoral Steam
Audius the general and Progy the emperor sat in the throne room, discussing matters too important for the lower classes to hear. They were arguing over Covercudgels, a little hamlet in an unimportant corner of The Absolute Dimensions, and though it was difficult to pinpoint what exactly they were arguing about over their raised voices, you could make a guess and say it was something to do with the latest chasm discovered.

Before they could reach an agreement, however, a young waterbien woman with a purple robe burst into the room, breathing heavily. She had a huge collection of crossbows strapped to her robe, of all different colours and sizes. Audius was the first to say anything. "Hict, my love!" he said warmly. "I haven't seen you since Opal! I suppose you have news from your scouting". Hict managed to ask, in between breaths, for Audius to go into his own office. He agreed and left.

Audius' office wasn't much compared to Progy's throne room, but it was still envied across the entire Tender Hill. At the back was an aluminium throne, engraved with extravagant images of Audius fending off entire sieges alone. A boy, dressed in a grubby cyan shirt, was carrying several large beakfish roasts into Audius' dining room.

"So, what reports have you got from your scouting?" he asked Hict, who was being hugged by an enthusiastic Iumutus, their only living child.

"The chompers..." Hict said "...they are creating an army. The North Heaven. I saw their clouds. Three. Yellow. Soaked in blood. Probably because of the animals."

"Don't worry about it, love," he said reassuringly. He then decided to change the topic. "Here, you must be hungry." He passed a beakfish roast over to Hict, who began to messily devour it. "Also, I've got this," he said, and began to search through his coffers. He pulled out, smiling, a huge bottle of strawberry wine. "Your favourite." He kissed Hict and sstroked her fin. "I've got to talk to Progy now, see you later," he said as he left the room.

Back in Progy's throne room, Progy was waiting patiently for the return of the general. "What new has your consort brought back from her scouting?" he asked.
"Nothing good."
"Why? What's happening?"
"The North Heaven. They probably disagree with our coopahan harvesting program, and they are building an army."
"That is bad. I'll have to agree with what you were saying before; project Mul must be completed, and quickly. Get all our finest masons and mechanics!"

A month passed, and it became Felsite. In the meantime, the general had assembled a band of masons and mechanics. An army of peasants was hauling huge volumes of stone into the castle where the weapon was being built.

The masons grabbed the stone and began working on building the huge barrel of the weapon. The also created a giant tank to store the liquid ammunition in, and dug a huge shaft until the dirt seemed warm enough to melt underneath their feet. They then climbed back up the precarious, ramshackle staircase they had built, destroying it as they climbed. Soon they were at the top of the pit.

Two burly peasants, wearing a simily filthy robe as the one the young boy wore, carefully carted a large barrel into the castle. With a loud grunt, they tossed it down the huge pit they had dug. It exploded spectacularly.

From the top of the pit, the masons and engineers could see the tounges of flame lick their way out of the pit. To add to that, the ground began to groan like a great beast, just waking up. Quickly, everyone ran out of the castle, hoping for the plan to work.

Iumutus had no idea what was happening, and was incredibly inquisitive. "Daddy! Daddy! What's happening? Daddy! Daddy! Will Mommy be all right? Daddy! Daddy! Can I have a go at building the gun?"

That's it for now. Looks like it turned out to be a bit more than a paragraph.

The artwork relates to the ascention of the waterbe Balkout Singedarmours to the position of king of The Taut Siege in 1.
